In July 2010, while capacity utilisation of the world steel industry in crude steel production was 75.1 %, down from 80.4 % in June, Turkey's capacity utilisation was 70.3 % down from 77.7 %.

Turkey's crude steel production rose by 1.3 % yoy in July 2010 to 2.37mmt, while Jan-Jul 2010 output rose 11.1 % from 14.28mmt to 15.87mmt.

During the first half of 2010, Turkey's total steel export to the North Africa dropped sharply by 50.7 % (1.61mmt) from 3.17mmt to 1.56mmt.

Turkey's total steel export increased by 21.9 % in the January-June 2010 from 4.84mmt to 5.9mmt yoy. Except for the decline in semis, import of all other steel product groups showed sharp increases.

Turkey's total steel export in 2010 declined by 12 % from 8.88mmt to 7.81mmt yoy. Export increased in June by 7.5 % yoy and 11.7 % mom.

Turkey's apparent crude steel consumption increased by 18.6 % in June yoy from 1.67mmt to 1.98mmt and 48.3 % in the first half of 2010 from 8.28mmt to 12.27 mmt.

STEEL-DATA Crude Steel Production Index shows that Turkey's production index was the 4th in major steel producing countries with 116.3 points in June 2010.

During the first half of 2010 capacity utilisation in Turkey's crude steel production was10.2 points lower than the world capacity utilisation.

Turkey's slab production rose by 58.3 % during the first half of 2010 from 1.96mmt to 3.1mmt, while billet production just up by 4.1 % to 10.4mmt in Jan-Jun 2010.

World crude steel production up by 27.9 % in H1 2010, while world production excluding China rose 34.3 %.
